Letters : Paris, France, 1887.

Three autograph, signed letters, an autobiography, and lists of works, sent by César Franck to an unnamed recipient in 1887. The first, dated October 12, 1887, thanks Franck's "Cher collègue" for two letters and for undertaking "propaganda" on his behalf. It includes a list of Franck's works, notes that he has not composed any new pieces for organ, and invites the recipient to adapt works for organ. An undated note accompanies a brief autobiography and a list of works. Another note, stamped "Received, Faulkner Page & Co., 66, 68, & 70 Leonard Steet, 11:30 PM Oct. 28, 1887," mentions an additional composition. A fragment of a letter (pages 5 and 6), dated October 31, 1887, includes incipits and metronome tempo markings for numbers three through six of Franck's Six Pièces (Prelude, fugue et variations; Pastorale; Prière; Final) and for his Trois Pièces.
